Do you think Plural Marriage is a taboo topic for discussion within the lds community? It seems like every time the topic arises, people tend to go very quiet.

I think your right people do get quiet when it comes to Polygamy.  Let's try not to let things go quiet, just yet.  Let's start with a scripture.

Isa. 4:1, "And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, We will eat our own bread, and wear our own apparel: only let us be called by thy cname, to take away our reproach."

I am with Zelph on this one-better to discuss then disregard.

I actually did not realize that it was so taboo until talking to a good friend about it.  I was sharing with her that I was suprised to read an article that stated most members of today do not beleive that we even believe in pologomy anymore.

While talking to her she said she could believe that and that no one really wants to talk about it anymore.

I am and always have been of the idea that it is an eternal principle--that for the time being we do not "practice" it but we still believe in it.

We still practise it when it comes to temple ordinances for the deceased.

As mentioned, with temple work, we also actually cross both areas (living and dead) because male members can be sealed to another living wife, after his spouse passes away.

Plural Marriage is still part of the Everlasting Gospel.  A complete reading of D&C 132 removes all doubt.  When the revelation was given to the Prophet Wilford Woodruff to cease the practice of Plural Marriage, the Lord was telling His Prophet that the Latter-day Saints needed to obey the Law of the Land as interpreted by the Supreme Court.  The Latter-day Saints needed to gain political independence by allowing Utah to become a State so the Latter-day Saints could rule themselves and not be ruled by corrupt territorial officials appointed by Washington, DC.  As you may already know.  there are many worthy Elders of Israel that are sealed to more than one wife.  For example, President Joseph Fielding Smith was sealed to three different wives.  As far as the law was concerned, however, he was married to one wife at a time.  God Bless

Jonholb57, welcome by the way. Smiley

Do you all think Plural Marriage is "doctrinal"? The reason I ask is because in an interview with Larry King Pres. Hinckley said it is not doctrinal and it puzzled me. Just because we are not commanded to live it right now, does it mean is not doctrinal?
