How do you think the Church is affected by having a lay ministry? What are some of its advantages and disadvantages?

Lay ministry isn't that where they get paid to be a ministry

A lay ministry is one where people volunteer their time to Church without being paid or formally trained. So my question is: How this affect us as a Church? (not having formally trained ministers)

I think it gives us an advantage, our laymen have to earn their living and so they are able to understand what we go through in life.

A lay ministry gives us the opportunity to serve, rather than let the Priests or Ministers do everything.  It also forces us to study the scriptures and gospel and grow in ways that we might not otherwise.
