This is a subject of interest for me right now.  Do you believe it happened all over North and South America? Central America? Great Lakes regions? Why do you believe what you do about geography?

I think it took place in central America and then they started heading towards North America. Not the other way around.

Here is an excellent review of a popular N.  American setting for The Book of Mormon:

hxxp: www. fairlds. org/DNA_Evidence_for_Book_of_Mormon_Geography/

If anyone has attended any of his firesides (he cannot give them in Church buildings anymore) or his lectures, you must read this review.  It shows the many fallacies in his arguments and how this information does not match up with scripture, Joseph Smith, or science.

I believe that the geography was in Central America. If you think about it the Olmecs were around the time of the Jaredites, the Nephites were the Mayans, and the wicked Lamanites after christ visited were the Aztecs. Weather Mormon walked all the way up to the Hill Cumorah in New York or God transported them there most of the Book of Mormon occured in the Meso-America region.

I don't really know where the history of the Book of Mormon people took place, but I think that the preponderance of the evidence seems to support a mesoamerican locale.  Unfortunately, the Hill Cumorah is in New York, and so far, all explanations for how a whole room full of plates got clear up to New York from Mexico seem unsatisfactory.  Also, it is the Algonquins who have the proper dna and not the Maya.
